UNESCO World Natural Heritage
26.06.2009 was a very special day for the unique mountains of the Schlern area: On this day in Sevilla, the Dolomites were acknowledged World Natural Heritage and have been especially worthy of protection for UNESCO since then.
The acknowledgment as World Natural heritage does not just come out of nowhere - the Dolomites are from an agricultural, geological and botanical perspective unique and cannot be compared to any other mountains on this planet. Its flora has been especially emphasized: The 142,000-hectare area on which the Dolomites are situated hosts more than 2,400 kinds of plants.
